On this day in ..

    • 1927 - A decaying tropical system dumps more than 15 inches on the Green Mountain area of Vermont. Flooding causes 200 deaths and 45 million in damage. The cities of Vernon and Montpelier among hardest hit areas.
    • 1935 - The "Yankee" Hurricane hits Miami. The storm was so-named because it came from a northeasterly direction. This was rare, because hurricanes almost never approach south Florida from the northeast. The wind speed exceeds 95 mph at Miami.
    • 1983 - Billings, MT sets their high temperature record for November with a temperature of 77.
    • 1985 - Remnants of Tropical Storm Juan drops more than 15 inches of rain in mountains of West Virginia and Virginia causing record flooding and over 40 deaths.
    • 1987 - Fort Smith, Arkansas records high of 86 which is a record for the month of November.
    • 1988 - 19 tornadoes recorded in the southeast ahead of fast moving cold front. One tornado narrowly missed a high school football game in McComb MS. Another tornado F3 tornado struck a school at New Site MS just as it was dismissing. Alert teachers rushed the students back into hallways just in time. One woman is killed in Lee, Florida and sixteen people are injured in Alabama. Meanwhile, McAllen, Texas reaches a high of 102 degrees.
