Bellaire, Ohio (WTRF) - As the Ohio Valley prepares to be hit with an "arctic outbreak," there are some new items at the top of homeowners' snowstorm shopping lists.
This time, people are heading straight to the hardware store to make sure they won't be left in the cold.
At ICR Hardware and Supply in Bellaire, they say generators and turbo heaters have replaced bread and milk on people's pre-storm shopping lists.
They say generators range from large industrial to small economy size.
"If you just want to run a small heater or charge your cell phone, all the way up to industrial grade ones that we can order in," said Kyle Hoffman, assistant manager. "It's important, especially if you have small children, pets or the elderly too. They obviously have to stay warm. Diabetics need insulin and that's got to be constantly kept at a certain temperature, so you need electricity to keep it cool."
Hoffman said ICR is also selling a lot of heat wrap pipes and heavy duty extension cords to run the generators.
They say they're selling generators and heaters for barns to keep livestock and smaller animals warm as well.
