Area delegate named WVEA Legislator of the Year

MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) - The West Virginia Education Association has selected a local delegate as WVEA Legislator of the Year.

Marshall County Delegate Mike Ferro received the call from WVEA President Dale Lee this week telling him he had been selected for the honor.

Aside from his job as a legislator, Ferro taught in the Marshall County school system from 1974 through 2009 and continues to substitute teach in retirement.

He says he feels honored to have been nominated by his fellow educators.

"I feel totally honored to be recognized by my own peers. I was nominated by the Marshall County Education Association, so my hat's off to those people that recognize my commitment not only to the organization, to the union, but also to all the educational community in Marshall County and to the kids in Marshall County as well," said Ferro.

Ferro will be honored by WVEA in Charleston on April 28.

He is a lifetime member of the union since he began his teaching career in 1974.
