Area students attend Wheeling Nailers Education Day

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) - It was a packed house Wednesday morning for Nailers Education Day at WesBanco Arena.

Each year, the Nailers host educational games in which area schools bring students for an experience that goes well beyond the fast-paced excitement of professional hockey.

Throughout the game, questions are asked to keep the kids engaged in the game while tying in with school curriculum as they learn about math, geography, science and other core subjects.

Hilltop Elementary students had the special task of performing the National Anthem.

"It was just really fun preparing for this with [our teacher] Miss George," said Hilltop student Cali.

"I like school, but I also like coming out every now and then and watching some fun stuff," said Union Local student Briley.

A majority of the students at Wedneday's game were from Ohio schools.

Because of the recent work stoppage in West Virginia, the Nailers did offer free admission to the entire community.
