The Belmont County Sheriff's Department got a call around 1:16 Monday morning, that a teen gave another a dose of prescription medication. It was the prescription medication Seroquil. It happened In the tiny community of Florence, just outside of Martins Ferry. A 16-year-old girl was given the pill by a friend. She began slurring her speech and nodding off to sleep. Her family became alarmed and called the sheriff's department.
The victim was treated by paramedics and both girls were placed into the Sargus Center. Charges are pending against both of them. The girl who gave the pill faces a charge of "corrupting another with drugs." The girl who took the pill may be charged with drug possession. Seroquil is a drug for bipolar disorder, manic depression and is sometimes used to treat Schizophrenia. They say it is serious medicine not to be shared and not to be taken for recreational purposes.
