Back to school usually slows air traffic just before the tourist season begins
By Jodi Juhl
With the kids heading back to school, it's not surprising that September is a slow period when it comes to travel. But Yeager Airport in Charleston is getting ready for a boom in business.
The airport usually sees a spike in passengers in late September and early October thanks to the natural beauty of the Mountain State.
Yeager's director Rick Atkinson says people flock to the mountain state to take advantage of one of West Virginia's most popular natural resources, whitewater rafting. He says people from all over the world travel visit the world-class white water rapids.
The Gauley Season, the unofficial name for the whitewater rafting season, officially started a little over a week ago and ends in mid-October.
