CHARLESTON -- He's received national acclaim for his skills but that could be tarnished after one game. Two days after the Huntington, Capital basketball game at the Charleston Civic Center, the Mountain State is still buzzing about the controversy involving Huntington High and Southern California rectuit, OJ Mayo.
Mayo threw down a tomahawk dunk to finish a fast break. He then received a techinical foul for taunting and delay of game. Seconds later, Mayo recieved a second technical and was ejected from the game.
Mayo then walked toward referee Mike Lazo and appeared to bump him. Lazo fell to the floor when teammates, coaches and security stepped in. Mayo left the floor without incident.
WVSSAC rules state the game official's decision is final and OJ will serve that suspension for the next two games against out-of-state prep powerhouses Artesia and Scott County.
