Davis and Elkins College held a bone marrow registration drive for a student with cancer.
By J. Turchetta
Carrie Egress a junior at Davis and Elkins College needs a bone marrow transplant. However no one in her family is a match. The community and the students at D&E decided to help out.
Today they held a bone marrow registration drive. Hopefully a match for Egress can be found. It is a simple test, a small amount of blood is drawn from each person. The blood is then taken and analyzed to see if anyone is a match.
Even if they are not a match for Egress, they might be for someone else on the national registry. And for some, knowing that they can make a difference is all the reason they need.
There were over one hundred people who gave a little bit of themselves to see if they are matches for Egress. The tests cost money, but because of donations from the community, the first 100 people were free.
Egress is still active in school both academically and in sports. She is the pitcher for the schools softball team and she says that trying to just live life is some of the best medicine.
Egress should know if a math was found in the coming weeks.
