MORGANTOWN -- Maurice Robinson played basketball for the Mountaineers in the 1970s.

His senior season was 1978. Robinson is still ranked eighth in Career Rebounds at WVU and fifth in career double-double's.

"Day in and day out I played against guys 7-foot -- much taller and much bigger than I was. I prided myself in the way I played the game," he said. "I played hard and I really enjoyed it. I played really hard. I took a lot of pride in my rebounding and I'm very happy with my stats. It seems like every year somebody passes me up, but that's okay."

Robinson played alongside current WVU Head Coach Bob Huggins. Both men remembered a game against Notre Dame very well.

"Digger (Phelps) walked over to us and said, 'We're going to whip you tomorrow boys,'" Huggins said. "We didn't say anything. We played pretty well. We're up 16 or 17 with a minute something to go. I remember Maurice walking over to Digger and Digger was yelling and screaming and Mo walked over and said, 'We beat your *** today boy."

Robinson remembered that day too.

"He (Digger Phelps) kind of said they were going to take us to the cleaners," Robinson said. "I wasn't a big talker back then. Towards the end of the game, we were beating them by 15 or 16 points. So, I kind of went by the bench and said, 'oh you got your butt whipped today, didn't you coach?"

Robinson suffered a few injuries after his college career was over and no longer plays basketball. He is currently a manager at CVS in Morgantown.

"The people is what makes the job what I like about it," he said. "Every day presents something new. Something you haven't seen the day before or the year before. I think I was built for retail."

Even though it has been 30 years since he wore the gold and blue, Robinson said the fans still remember him.

"Every day. Not a day passes that somebody doesn't come up and say I remember you playing," he said. "I really enjoy watching you. That's the thing about the Mountaineer fan base, they don't forget."
