St. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio -- The chief investigator in the death of John T. Roberts took the stand in Belmont County Court on Tuesday.
Sgt. Steve Forro said Roberts' nephew, also known as John McKinney Roberts, admitted he knew that he was driving around with his dead uncle in a garbage can.
Roberts is being charged with evidence tampering.
Two Mt. Pleasant men getting ready to burn their trash found Roberts' body at the end of March. That can had been dropped off by a friend of theirs, John McKinney Roberts.
The nephew indicated he didn't want the family to know his uncle committed suicide.
An autopsy shows that John T. Roberts died of a gunshot wound to the head. Due to decomposition, the time of death is unknown.
Judge Harry White left bond at $1 million and found probable cause to bind the case over to the grand jury.
