Area firefighters took part in a training session.
Story by Jerry Echemann
WHEELING -- A new fire-training device from West Virginia University was used Saturday for only the fourth time.
Firefighters from Wheeling, Clearview, Beech Bottom and Windsor Heights were among those who got to take a look at the new mobile fire unit, which the Extension Service bought for $450,000.
The device is designed to give firefighters experience in forced entry and roof ventilation. It gives off plenty of smoke and fire.
"It's fueled by propane. We use artificial smoke. It's non-toxic. Safety is an important element of training," said Murrey Loflin of the WVU Fire Extension Service.
The mobile fire unit is due in New Martinsville the last weekend in July.
The public is welcome to take a look.
