Greenbrier Valley Medical Reserve Corp is a step towards better emergency preparedness in the county.
Story by Jessica Quast
Greenbrier County is leading Southern West Virginia with a newly organized emergency preparedness plan.
It's called the Greenbrier Valley Medical Reserve Corps.
Greenbrier's MRC has already been recognized and registered by the Surgeon General of the United States.
It is also recognized as part of the White House's USA Freedom Corps and the Department of Homeland Security's Citizens Corps.
More than 70 county doctors, health clinics, pastoral groups and the county health department have formally joined under this umbrella.
Director Ron Scobbo says Greenbrier's MRC provides communication to respond FASTER in times of emergency.
Greenbrier's MRC is the fifth of its kind in the state, and the first in Southern West Virginia.
