WEIRTON -- Arcelor Mittal Steel announced Thursday it will begin tearing down it's Open Hearth Mill. The Open Hearth Mill was shut down around 1969.
Some deem it an eyesore, with heavy black moss and weeds growing on the structure.
The physical dismantling begins next Tuesday, September 4.
Bryan James, Arcelor Mittal C.E.O, said "we have utility lines that run through here, oil tank on the other side of this building. So we won't be able to fill it in one single swoop."
Millions of tons of steel will all be recycled and melted down as scrap.
Officials wouldn't discuss the overall plan for the mill or if other parts will be demolished next.
