WHEELING -- The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers wants to hear from you on the Wild Escape Theme Park at the Highlands.
The project is waiting for permits to be issued, and the public notice period is the next step.
Fred Pozzuto, the project's manager, said the permit request is now in the public notice phase, meaning residents and businesses have the chance to give comment before a decision is made.
"Just because we issue a public notice doesn't mean that as soon as the notice is closed, there's going to be a permit issued the following week. Because, as the notice said, we still are going to see what is proposed for the new wetlands site that was supposed to be built a number of years ago," Pozzuto said.
That wetlands area was supposed to be built on the site that will now be the theme park. The county had to come up with a different area for the wetlands project.
Pozzuto said that's part of the time lapse issue.
He said he believes the site grew bigger than originally thought for the county.
The public comment period lasts until September 25.
