Getting enough rest could make a difference in your brain power, and a drug once thought to help those with Lou Gehrig's disease actually doesn't.

Story by The CBS Newspath

A few nights without sleep can not only make people tired and grumpy but may actually put the brain into a primitive state. Brain images of otherwise healthy men and women showed two full days without sleep seemed to rewire their brains, re-directing activity from the calming and rational areas to the more primal "fear center."

The findings may shed light on psychiatric disorders as this experiment shows even healthy people s brains can mimic pathological patterns when pushed enough.

According to a new study, women treated for pre-cancerous lesions are more than twice as likely to develop cervical cancer for at least another 25 years. The research underscores the need for follow-up tests to continue for far longer than the current five or ten years standard in most countries.

A just-completed clinical trial concludes an acne drug that had shown early promise in treating the degenerative nerve condition known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease actually worsens it.

The drug worked with mice but when given to humans, patients deteriorated at a 25 percent faster pace than those given a placebo.
