It's time to ditch the books. And enjoy the summer sun.
"Relax, watch tv, 4-h, fishing". says Logan Ward a 3rd grader.
And for some, it's time to say goodbye.
"I'm graduating 5th grade and moving to the middle school". says 5th grader Laikon Sweeney.
"It's bittersweet, because I have cared so much for them and gotten to know them and looked out for them. And they've touched my life so much". says Patricia Harvey, Jumping Branch Elementary Principal.
Students say they won't put down their books all summer long. Many of them already know how they will be spending their summer.
"Read a few books, play outside and relax". says 4th grader Andrew Weiss.
"Read play play station, play on the computer, go to the park, swim, water slide. Whatever comes to mind". says 5th grader Rhiannon Richards.
Summers County schools were looking forward to more money for the next school year. But a recent levy that would have given schools more than a million dollars over the next three years was voted down.
"All of our hope for new furniture for our schools are bashed". says Patricia Harvey, Jumping Branch Elementary . Harvey says she's disappointed but she's not giving up. Jumping Branch is the first school in the county to be named a West Virginia School of Excellence and they're using that honor as motivation for next year.
"We will use what we have and do the best with what we have". says Patricia Harvey, Jumping Branch Elementary.
