WHEELING -- Wheeling Park's Science Department has received a gift from the Ohio County SPCA in the form of frog friendly software for biology students.
The software program combines full color photography, videos, animations, and text to teach frog dissection, anatomy, and ecology. Mr. Pat Durkin is the science department chair and is excited about the new technology.
Rebecca Goth is the head of Education Committee for the SPCA and says it's time to recognize that killing and harming animals for educational purposes is not in the student's best interest.
About 450 students will be taking regular or honors biology next year.
The digital frog program also saves the county money. The program costs just $900.00 whereas the cost of frog dissection at Wheeling Park could reach over $4,000 in five years.
