HUNTINGTON -- Chad Pennington’s 1st and 10 Foundation is pleased to announce that it has given $112,800 to deserving organizations throughout the Tri-State area for the Fall 2008 grant cycle. The former Marshall University quarterback's Foundation, which issues funds on a semi-annual basis, distributed $198,284 total to area communities in 2008.

“Robin and I are so proud of the Foundation’s success”, said Chad Pennington, Foundation President. “The Foundation continues to grow each year, and with the help of our supporters and volunteers, we have distributed more than $500,000 since 2006 and expect to reach the $1,000,000 mark in the very near future.”

The following Tri-State organizations will receive funding from the 1st and 10 Foundation:

• Safe Harbor of Northeast Kentucky (serving Tri-State Area) Funding for the purchase of sturdy safe playground for children at this domestic violence shelter.

• First Book Huntington Funding for the purchase of new books to economically-challenged children in the Huntington area once a month for an entire year.

• Holzer Hospice (Gallipolis, OH) Funding for Camp Beaver – a bereavement camp for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one in their young lives.

• Holzer Senior Care Center (Gallipolis, OH) Funding for the development of "Giving Hope Through Wellness" – a wellness program for seniors at the shelterhouse and two walking trails.

• Junior Achievement of WV Funding to provide entrepreneurial education to 1500 K-12 students attending public schools where 50% or more of the students receive free or reduced lunch.

• Deuteronomy Fund (Barboursville, WV) Funding for "Girls Place" - an afterschool mentoring program. The girls attending the program study with the aid of volunteer tutors, assist with dinner prep, eat dinner, clean up and participate in an activity to educate or improve self-esteem.

• Appalachian Leadership & Education Foundation of Wyoming County, WV Funding for 100 leadership field experiences – providing support for each student in his/her service activities and projects, as well as personal leadership curriculum materials and fellowship supplies.

• CONTACT Huntington (WV) Funding for a Volunteer 24/7 hotline to provide crisis intervention and support/advocacy services to victims of sexual assault and stalking.
