WELLSBURG -- The United Steelworkers which represents workers at Graphic Packaging has just learned the company will be forced to layoff 30 employees.
The company produces food packaging products and also produces bags .
It's that part of the business that is being curtailed.
The layoffs are expected to begin on April 6th.
USW Local Spokesman Alan Sampson tells wtrf.com that the union has a committment from the company they plan to remain in Wellsburg.
Currently there are about 150 management and union workers at the Wellsburg Plant which operates on Route 2.
Sampson says the layoffs are a direct result of the ailing economy.
