WELLSBURG -- Wellsburg Police Sergeant Lester Skinner tells wtrf.com that the victim of a strong arm robbery in the city on Monday has been left paralyzed.

Sgt. Skinner says the woman was loading groceries into her car in the Dollar General Parking lot when a woman approached her from behind and tried to take her purse. The 73-year old victim held on to the purse refusing to let go. Skinner says she was dragged as a result.

The suspect is described as a young female with a medium build. The elderly woman's husband is offering a $1,000 dollar reward for any information which may help police make an arrest.

The victim is in Weirton Medical Center expected to undergo an MRI to determine why she can't walk.

Anyone who may know who the female suspect is should call our Lauttamus Security Crime Fighters Tipline at 1-8002--20312. All calls are confidential.

Reporter Dave Elias will have the very latest on this devleoping story tonight on 7 News at 5.

To the news 7 newsroom and all who may read this post.: The victim while I will not disclose who is my girlfriends grandmother and for the record as far as anybody knows she is not permanently paralyzed. I repeat not permanently paralyzed. The injury although I will not disclose it may keep her in the hospital for a week or two but she will in all likelyhood fully recover. I mention this because my girlfriend was very upset to learn of the careless reporting of 7 news on this story and they are all going through a tough time right now and would appreciate a correction of the misinformation in this story. Thank You

This is so sad. How messed up is this chic? Someone needs to hook a purse to her shoulder and drag her a** down a sidewalk or road. Lucky I do not live in that city or she would not be walking anymore either . I hope Dollar General has a camera system that you can actually SEE the female and identify her so this lady and her husband can have some kind of closure to this horrible incident. We obviously need more security in parking lots.
