CHARLESTON -- In a throwback to the Boston Tea Party, protesters are gathering nationwide this week to speak out against what they say is wasteful government spending.
Supporters of that campaign gathered at the State Capitol Wednesday at noon.
They are specifically upset about the bailouts of the financial and auto industries, as well as the latest federal stimulus program.
A similar event was held in front of Huntington City Hall on Tuesday.
The purpose of Tea Parties to get the attention of federal and state leaders to say enough is enough regarding taxes, and the hope is the gathering will inspire others to get involved in the political process.
The rally in Charleston was one of several going on across the nation, including six in West Virginia.
Organizers say Americans "are being taxed to death," and combined with what they call wasteful government spending, they believe the nation is digging itself into a big financial hole the country with no way to recover.
Although attendance numbers are still being calculated, organizers expect it to be the largest single day protest in American History.
