MOUNDSVILLE -- The recent police tragedy in Pittsburgh that left three police officers dead, has many departments across teh country looking at implementing new safety procedures. Many of those new devices are unveiled today in Marshall County.

The annual Mock Prison Riots was held today in Moundsville at the old State Penn. While the event is geared primarily toward prison safety, some of the latest technology can save police officers live too.

Some of the latest tasers are handheld devices that can shoot up to 35 feet and reduce the proximity between officers and the subject.

Officers are also getting the chance to participate in a virtual reality training center. There are several scenarios including a hostage standoff inside an apartment building.

Vendors say more police agencies are purchasing bullet proof shields to protect officers.

The riot runs through Wednesday.
