BELLAIRE, Ohio -- It's enough to enrage animal lovers.
A little male brown tiger-striped kitten apparently had a strong will to live.
The ten-week-old kitten named "River" is singed from head to toe.
Doctors say he is fighting infection, and badly burned.
"He's got some pretty extensive wounds," said Dr. Jim Moore of New Horizon Animal Hospital, where the kitten was brought by the dog warden. "He may lose the tips of his ears and he may lose some skin back here on his back legs."
He was reportedly burned in the early hours Saturday morning when a several people were camping in Bellaire.
"The kitten was apparently in a chair, and somebody came by and threw the chair into the fire," says Dog Warden Lisa Williams. "They reportedly yelled, 'There's a kitten in there--Don't!' But the chair was still thrown into the fire."
Williams is investigating to sort out who threw the kitten into the fire.
The doctors at New Horizon say one thing is certain.
"I mean anybody who would do something like that on purpose is just about as ignorant as it gets," said Dr. Jim Moore.
We are told the kitten's owner has no money.
At this point, little "River" needs continued veterinary care, if he is to survive.
Donations can be sent either to the Belmont County Animal Shelter or directly to New Horizon Animal Hospital.
They say "River" has a lot of spunk and a strong will to survive.
