WHEELING, WV -- There's a new aspect to the Wheeling YWCA's Domestic Violence Prevention Program's major fund-raiser.
"Hat's Off To Women" set for October 13 at Oglebay's Pine Room, will also honor young women from the ages of 12 through 18 who are nominated by the public as Young Emerging Leaders.
You can nominate any young woman--your sister, neighbor or student--who you feel has exemplary qualities.
"Somebody that embodies dedication to family, faith, they're kind, they have a spirit of giving." said Stacy Gilson, a Mary Kay Senior Sales Representative. "It's not just physical. It's what's inside them. This is a program where we're celebrating them on October 13. And we want the tri state area to nominate all the people in their life that's special and deserves recognition."
"Self-esteem plays a major role in teen dating violence," explained Debbie Woods, Director of the YWCA Family Violence Prevention Program. "So it is our job to get out there and hopefully show the parents the signs of teen dating violence in ways they may not even be aware. So because of this program, Hat's Off, we're going to be able to reach a lot more parents, going to be able to be mentors for the community at large."
To nominate a Young Emerging Leader, pick up a form at the Wheeling YWCA or call (304) 233-2828 to request that a form be mailed to you.
There is no overall winner chosen.
All the Young Emerging Leader nominees will be honored equally at the Hat's Off event.
Individuals and business people are encouraged to attent or help with sponsorships.
