WASHINGTON, DC -- It was announced Friday that the Federal Bureau of Prisons had awarded a $163 million contract to a Virginia company to build a new medium security prison in Hazelton.
Hensel Phelps Construction Company of Chantilly, Va. will build a 1,280-bed prison and work camp.
The facility will employ more than 300 people with an estimated annual economic impact for the area of between $35-40 million, officials say.
Construction is expected to take three years.
A prison, work camp and female facility are already located in Hazelton.
