The State Board of Dental Examiners took the action.

MOUNDSVILLE -- The West Virginia Board of Dental Examiners has suspended a Marshall County dentist's anesthesia license.

The report alleged that Dr. Charles Wylie failed to properly sedate a patient.

The Dental Examiners Board alleged that Wylie engaged in unprofessional and conduct far beyond medically acceptable standards.

He is accused of allegedly administering 17 tablets of Halcion to a patient during a five hour procedure which the report alleges had a toxic effect on the patient.

The report states the patient had to be treated in a hospital.

7 News has tried to contact Dr. Wylie but he was unavailable for comment.

According to: "Drug Information Handbook for Dentistry", and "MRP" Monthly Prescribing Reference, The description and definition for Halcion (aka: Benzodiazepine. Triazolam) Indications: Short term (7-10 days) Treatment of insomnia. Dosage: Oral (onset of action is rapid, patient should be in bed when taking medication) Children younger than 18 years: Not recommended. ADULTS: Hypnotic: 0.125-0.25mg at bedtime (MAX dose: 0.5mg/day) **Preprocedure sedation (dental): 0.25 mg taken the evening before oral surgery; or 0.25mg 1 hour before procedure *Overdose may occur at 2mg. Depression, Pulmonary, renal or hepatic disease may occur if overdosed. Causes CNS depression (dose-related) resulting in sedation, dizziness, confusion, or ataxia which may impair physical and mental capabilities. *Patients must be cautioned about performing tasks which require mental alertness. ***So...How exactly did this patient understand and consent to taking 17 of these pills, when only taking 1 is recommended for a dental procedure? It simply stated the symptoms:impaired physical and mental capabilities, after taking just one pill.. Instead of bashing this poor patient, I think we all should pray that he/she won't suffer the long term health effects....

If anyone reading these comments can take any of these people serious, they need to relax. I will PROMISE all of you that 90% of the people posting comments on here do not have but a high school degree. Learn how to speak proper english, and get a life. Physical abuse in the workplace? Didn't that charge get dropped because the lady was a liar? and if you want to get correct on your claim that all of his employees are single mothers looking for a good pay, actually I know him personally and I am best friends with one of his kids, and most of his employees are married. He does not offer health insurance to his employees that is why most of his employees are married and use their husbands insurance. GET A LIFE!

Before you start criticizing formal employees perhaps you should try working there. The man is a tyrant. He has a long history of verbal as well as physical abuse of his employees who mostly consist of sinlge moms who need a good paying job and feel they are stuck there. I hope they take away his license before he ends up killing someone. This has been coming for a long time.

Hmmm Me it shows how little you know as people "on welfare" are not covered by dental procedures unless it is an emergency or you are getting all your teeth pulled and dentures. Second not all abscess are a result of bad oral hygiene. I have had my share of abscessed teeth following my pregnancies. My teeth simply became weak and brittle and the fillings I had some 20 years ago either fell out or became bad and caused an abscess. One filling simply became cracked and caused something to get into the root. I went to Wiley 1 time for an evaluation. I am glad I never went to him and he was so super rude to his employees I can't believe anyone would work for him. He messed up and I hope he gets taken to the bank. Funny you r claiming the person to be on welfare and u know nothing about them how judgmental are u?

We left after he did a total orbital x-ray on my 2 1/2 year old daughter. After checking with an orthodondist and the dentist we now and have been seeing for 8 years, they were both VERY concerned that he could have ruined the tissue and teeth that were up in the gums and she could have had MAJOR problems for life. Thank GOD it didn't get that bad and she was checked thoroughly at an older age. I also was getting a filling in his office one day and he was running back and forth from my room to another room next door where he was filling another tooth. The patient (an adult) was screaming in pain and Dr. Wiley was yelling right back at him in a panic tone and obviously very stressed and unprofessional. The assistant looked at me and rolled her eyes and I made a comment that I hope that doesn't happen to me. I think I should have left then but I was already numbed and waited it out. Still, it was the most unpleasant filling I ever got. We are and have been very concerned for all patients who see him since our bad ordeals 8 years ago. So, these problems just didn't start yesterday. He's been under the radar now for a long time. It is time they get him!

In this day and age, do you really believe that if things were as bad as 'one of those former employees' says they were, then Dr Wylie would be in jail. Sounds like someone was looking for an extra pay day.

In 1994 when 26 employees walked out in fear for their safety in working in his business, these employees were awarded unemployment after Chuck appealed the first decision. The judge said that Chuck had an obligation to provide a safe working environment and he had not done that. There is a difference between complaining because you don't like your work environment and being afraid in your work environment.

Of course there is much more to the story but as usual, the public gets a snap shot of the incident. We do like a jucy story though, don't we. The same goes for former employees. There is more to that story as well. Some people are not cut out to work in an environment that requires you do your job without whining. And don't forget, it is politically incorrect to tell someone they are not working up to standard. We wouldn't want them to be offended by being told they are not doing a good job. Hang in there Chuck and family.

here we go again, everybody "thinks" they know so much. i had work done at his office lots of times and so has my wife and kids. and i will keep going there./ of course we are talking about people that are on welfare and nothing better to do in the valley but run their mouths and cause trouble. i am a hard working man that supports Dr. Chuck Wylie. and you only get an absess in your mouth if do not clean ur teeth and mouth right. that is not a Dentist at fault there. and think there is more to this story, like why wasn't the patient interviewed on this and what else was this person on. and not told to the people. WOW!!!!!!!!! what a life in the ohio valley.this person could of had an issue and not told to Dr. Wylie.

I can't understand how he keeps evading the law. I was an employee several years ago and left the practice because of this kind of thing, in addition to him abusing his employees. You're right, someone needs to contact all the employees. I was there for two years and 70+ employees came and went over that period of time! I'm sure that over the years there have been several, "close calls". Thank goodness this patient is going to be okay. People need to quit going to that practice no matter how much advertising they see.
