MOUNDSVILLE -- The body of a Marshall County soldier started its journey back to the United States Thursday.
The body of Julian Berisford, 25, is being flown back with a military escort. Berisford's death is still very raw to all of his family, especially to his wife, Gina. However, they agreed to talk to 7News Reporter Melissa Reid. They want everyone to know just who this hero was.
As the interview was conducted, Berisford’s 11 month-old daughter Maya held on to her daddy book. It includes pictures of her father, who bravely served his country and paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Berisford was a 2002 graduate of John Marshall High School and married Gina on New Years Eve 2007.
Berisford enlisted in the Army in February 2007. He became a specialist with the 509th Infantry and left for Afghanistan in March 2009.
Gina last spoke to him Oct. 21 and remembers his last words. He told her to hold little Maya back so he could be there for her very first steps.
Berisford was supposed to come home in two weeks. His tour of duty was scheduled to be completed in February.
In these tough times, here is just a reminder that help is available for military families at the Vet Center, located at 1058 Bethlehem Blvd., Wheeling, WV 26003. The phone number is (304) 232-0587.
