The Affordable Health Care for America Act passed the House Saturday night.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The trillion dollar Affordable Health Care for America Act narrowly passed the U.S House of Representatives Saturday night, 220 to 215.

Two yes votes and one no were cast by West Virginia's congressional delegation.

Democrats Alan Mollohan, D-W.Va., who represents the states 1st District, and Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., who represents the 3rd District, voted for the bill. Meanwhile, Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., who represents the state's 2nd District, voted against it.

“This legislation would give all of our citizens access to affordable health care, contain escalating health care costs that threaten our economic recovery and improve Medicare prescription drug benefits for our seniors,” Mollohan said.

“I have long-said that West Virginians deserve meaningful health care reform, but this bill is not the bipartisan consensus-building legislation that my constituents have asked for,” said Capito.

The bill will now go on to the U.S. Senate.

Word on capital hill today is that pelosi told congress members that were under ethics investigations that she would slow down these investigations in return for their votes on the health scare bill.

This pelosi-care will not be free. Everyone will pay and if you already have insurance , your premiums will go up because you will be charged for a "cadillac plan" which most miners , power plant workers etc. have and you will also be paying a premium to pay for all the people out there with pre-existing conditions so they can be insured. You will also be charged more taxes for medical devices that you may need ( wheel chairs, dialisis devices , braces , oxygen ,etc). My questions are : why so much so fast ? Why no lawsuit reform ? Why not fix the laws so that consumers could buy insurance from any state so that competition would bring the cost down? If this is so great , bar all private insurance and mandate that "every citizen" including politicians and movie stars have to be on this pelosi-care. If politicians exempt themselves from this you have to know that this bill is a turkey. They want to be the "elite class" with the rest of us being slaves to them. If this bill comes to be,prepare yourself for rationed care and seniors will get much less care so that they won't burden the system. You will have to go through a buerocrat to get permission to see a doctor. Medical care as we know it will be gone. Mollohan , Wilson , Space and their ilk are " party first" politicians who do not have the guts to stand up to pelosi. You can always count on them to follow queen nancy. What cowards ! This bill adds thousands of government hacks to decide what is best for you and your family. We need real healthcare refom . not a government power grab. And also " STOP VOTING FOR THESE HACKS !"

Where were all you thrifty so-called conservatives when the Bush Administration (now in exile at Fixed News) were needlessly expending countless billions of our dollars and our soldiers blood in Iraq and Afganistan? The Democratic Agenda wants to provide healthcare for all Americans, because costs are out of control and normal people can no longer afford adequate healthcare. Congratulations to the congressman who voted for healthcare reform! At least the money will be spent on Americans in America and not throwing it away in distant lands with zero to show for it. May I suggest that the conservative right-wingers campaign with as much vigor to bring these wars to an immediate end.

It has been stated over and over that the majority of Americans do not want this health care bill and that they want the sanctity of marriage protected so I believe it is time we start impeachment proceedings on all elected officals going against the majority of the people who elected them.... It is time for another Boston tea party.

The bottom line here is: This bill is potentially a life altering nightmare for the working class, who are no doubt going to be the ones who pay for it. Secondly, anytime government passes a new law, we lose more of our freedom, and they get richer. A bill of this magnitude should be rolled out to the public, along with every law professor, health care consultant, etc for an extended period of time. That time should be used for open public debate and discussion, then put up for a vote to the entire population. I simply do not think this is the time to put such a stressful burden on an already bleeding economy, much less try to push it through by Christmas, Like Mr. Reid stated today. What is their rush??? I say NO to their bill because it makes me a criminal if I cant afford it or prefer to opt out. When government leaves the people with an ultimatum of take it or go to jail, then it is not government any longer. It then becomes tyranny, shoved down our throats by a dictatorial congress. Instead of representing us,....our senators now dictate policy to us with the threat of the US armed forces backing them. I say send 'em on down!!! I plan to stand my ground when the time comes and so should every true blue American. United we stand, divided,...the politicians rule !

Thank you Shelley Moore Capito for standing up for our rights. I refuse to pay for a service that I do not want and I refuse to help pay for abortions.

Sure it would be nice to get health care for everybody but in doing so our government is trying to take away our rights. I am really suprised that so many people are supporting this abuse of power.

Both parties are riding the same wagon,...both want their own version though so one party can declare victory over the other. Neither of the 2 parties has a clue as to what this bill will do to businesses and the working class 5 years from now. I say neither parties plan is worth a hoot in hell for healing our broken bones or our broken economy. Our public servants should be concentrating on bringing our nation back to wealth and prosperity. The only reason health care is unaffordable for so many is because we are out of work and cant afford it. Heal capitalism and healthcare will take care of itself. Want a real eye opener? Log onto Jay Rockefellers web site and look at all the amendments to the democrats bill that he proposes,....but gives no details as to how he plans to pay for them. What a joke.

See the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities www.cbpp.org (this comment software won't let me include a direct link) and search for "House Health Reform Bill Expands Coverage and Lowers Health Cost Growth, While Reducing Deficits." The House bill will open up Medicaid to more people as well as provide subsidies for purchasing health insurance and assistance for deductibles and co-pays for those earning up to 400 percent of the poverty level. It sounds like you will be helped by this bill, Jessie. All that and it will still reduce the deficit!

Meanwhile though, Jessie, have you checked into this program for WV residents www.wvrx.org? This program could help with your prescription expenses.

But you know, the final bill won't look like this bill the House just passed. The Senate has yet to vote on their version of the bill. Assuming that passes, then they have to reconcile the House and Senate versions and both chambers have to vote again on the merged version of the bill. So we should stay tuned and use that link D Binion provided to stay apprised of developments.

I agree with Informed Citizen: the House bill is a start toward meeting the virtually unanimous belief that no American should go without health care because he or she can't afford it.

Right now the insurance cartels are in control of our healthcare - they set prices, decide what doctors you can see, how many days you can stay in the hospital, decide your course of treatment and what prescriptions you can take. It is hard to understand anyone wanting to continue the current system.

There is a wealth of information available regarding both the House and Senate legislation. Many forums have been held throughout the state to provide the facts. There is no reason to be uninformed about this legislation. The best place to start is www.wvahc.org West Virginians for Affordable Health Care.

I am one of the millions of Americans without insurance. Simply because I cannot afford to buy it for myself. I am diabetic and need at least 4 bottles of insulin a month at the cost of $107.00 a bottle. Due to the fact I cannot afford that amount I am forced to not take my insulin as I should, therefore causing my sugar to be elevated! We are the working class, so I do not fall in the catagory for help. I have been declined insurance due to pre-existing condition. My question is this: Will this new bill help those of us that are the working middle class??? Making to much to be classified as poor but not enough to be Rich!!! Will I be the American that will be fined simply because I fight to survive in this world to pay my utilities and buy food and medication??? Please someone give me some answers!!!!

All federal government employees, not just the President and Congress are already in an insurance exchange. We already have a choice regarding insurance plans unless MOST Americans. The entire bill is available online to be read, nothing is hidden. The moajority of West Virginians are registered Democrats so there is nothing secret about why the Democratic Congressmen would vote for the bill and the Republican would not. In addition, more than 60% of the American people favor some sort of national health care system - be it single payer or a public option.

Sadly, the House bill does not come close enough to the single-payer system that this country really needs, but it is at least a beginning.

I cannot understand why if this bill is so great why the president and congress are exempt. I feel like something smells here , maybe more big government control!!! Ifeel if there is nothing to hide then more detailed information should made more public . I personally watch news and hear so many conflicting views I am not sure what to believe. seems like government is getting so big that it is out of control of the citizensit is supposed to represent . JUST MY VIEW!
