The Affordable Health Care for America Act passed the House Saturday night.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The trillion dollar Affordable Health Care for America Act narrowly passed the U.S House of Representatives Saturday night, 220 to 215.
Two yes votes and one no were cast by West Virginia's congressional delegation.
Democrats Alan Mollohan, D-W.Va., who represents the states 1st District, and Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., who represents the 3rd District, voted for the bill. Meanwhile, Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., who represents the state's 2nd District, voted against it.
“This legislation would give all of our citizens access to affordable health care, contain escalating health care costs that threaten our economic recovery and improve Medicare prescription drug benefits for our seniors,” Mollohan said.
“I have long-said that West Virginians deserve meaningful health care reform, but this bill is not the bipartisan consensus-building legislation that my constituents have asked for,” said Capito.
The bill will now go on to the U.S. Senate.
