CHARLESTON --  Gov. Joe Manchin and other state officials joined veterans and members currently serving in the military for a rededication ceremony at the West Virginia Veterans Memorial Tuesday.

Manchin thanked the servicemen and women on behalf of all West Virginians.

A new list of names of those who served in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War was recently carved on the monument. Restoration work began in 2007 after a Roane County man drove his car into the monument. The new list contains 1,430 names.

Joe Mullins, who designed the memorial, spoke of the significance of the list of names.

"These are individuals," he said. "I mean, every one of these names is the pride of some family. I mean, each one of them are special individuals."

Brenda Cramer, who takes part in the annual "Run for the Wall", said the memorial means a lot to her and her family.

"It means a great deal to me because of the sacrifices made," she said. "And, that we don't forget those who did not come home".

The rededication of the memorial coincided with the 234th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.
