BROOKE -- The No.1 Brooke Bruins improved to 12-0 on the season with a 34-14 victory over No. 9 Ripley at Brooke Memorial Stadium in a Class AAA quarterfinal.

Brooke's Ian Morris returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and the Bruins were on their way to victory. The junior scat back, filing in for the injured Ryan Lazear, finished the game with three touchdowns.

Brooke quarterback Cotey Wallace tossed a touchdown pass to Shane Paesano in the second quarter, and also ran for a score in the fourth quarter.

Ripley scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to avoid the shutout.

The game also marked the return of Brooke Head Coach Tom Bruney, who missed last week's game while serving a one-game suspension for an ejection in the final game of the regular season at Musselman.

The Bruins advance to the AAA semis, where they'll host No.13 University next weekend. The Bruins defeated the Hawks 27-0 in the middle of the season.

And in New Martinsville, the Magnolia Blue Eagles (12-0) held off a fiesty bunch of Keyser Golden Tornadoes 9-0 in a Class AA quarterfinal at Alumni Field.

The lone touchdown was a three-yard run from Stingray Bates in the second quarter. Justin Fox, who botted a field goal in the first quarter, missed the extra point, making the score 9-0 at the half.

Magnolia's defense did the rest, pitching their fifth shutout of the season. Fox sealed the deal with an interception in the end zone in the fourth quarter.

Bates finished the game with 63 yards on 20 carries and moved into second place on the school's all-time rushing list. Dillon Jackson added 46 yards on the ground on 11 carries. Jackson, who broke the school's all-time rushing record last week, now has 2,244 yards in his career. But Bates isn't far behind. His career-total is 2,235 yards, just nine yards behind Jackson.

Fox, the Blue Eagles junior quarterback, completed 9 of 19 passes for 130 yards.

Magnolia advances back to the state semifinals for a second straight year, this time they'll host Bluefield, next weekend.
