WHEELING -- A former Weirton Police officer who was blinded in the line of duty has been appointed to fill a vacancy in Brooke County Magistrate Court.

Michael Fuscardo will take over for Debbie Lundsford, who died in November after a lengthy illness.

Fuscardo was making an arrest when a suspect threw acid in his face causing serious damage and scars leaving him unable to serve as a police officer.

Fuscardo is scheduled to be sworn in Dec. 9, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Ohio County Courthouse.

Fuscardo will hold the seat until the next general election on Nov. 2, 2010.

Glad to hear this. Mike's a great guy and did a good job as magistrate previously.
