WHEELING -- Residents from all over the Ohio Valley, from as far as Charleston, met Tuesday night to debate health care.
Bob Connors, a member of We the People of the Ohio Valley, said he believes President Barack Obama's health care bill will bankrupt the country.
"If the government is in control of anything in your life you lose liberty ... if they decide you have to buy health insurance..that is not liberty and you don't have the choice to say no," said Connors.
Dr. Jeep Naum said he thinks the debate Obama has started is a good thing, but he thinks the plan in progress has problems.
"I think government does have its place in health care, but I think it can be done through Medicare and Medicaid...not a whole bureaucracy," said Naum.
Congressional Candidate Tom Stark from Parkersburg said he believes there is already a system in place and it is not up to the taxpayers to make sure every person has health care.
"I am totally against the whole thing, it's the wrong approach to the process, it needs to be challenged and look for ways of improvement. I think they are rushing it," said Stark.
Meanwhile, the battle over health care continues to rage on Capitol Hill. Senate Democrats are racing to pull together a health care overhaul bill by Christmas Day.
