BARTON, Ohio -- As the winds roared all over the Ohio Valley a Belmont County couple got the scare of there life Wednesday morning.

A tree fell on their pick-up truck on Barton-Blaine Road around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Belmont county couple involved in this accident is recovering.

Ohio Highway Patrolman Roger Clark said the couple was obviously shaken when the tree slammed into their windshield.

"Throughout the county, with the trees and with the wind, it happens every year. We have a lot of trees falling on the roadway and we hadn't any recently fall on a vehicle until today," said Trooper Clark.

Mathew Myers, 38, and his wife were traveling home on Barton-Blaine Rd. and a tree fell on their F-150 pick-up.

"The gentleman was coming down the road, headed to Barton, and the dead Elm tree...you can see from the damage fell on the truck. Both the husband and wife were transported," said Trooper Clark.

The windshield and front end of their truck was smashed and the road had to be shut down while authorities cleaned up the debris.

Officials said the busy day began with this incident, but continued as wind speeds increased through the Ohio Valley.

Trooper Clark warns drivers to be careful.

"Anytime there is a storm front, slow down, and give yourself time to get where you're going," said Trooper Clark.
