The man convicted in the June 2008 murder of a Newell man has his request for a reduction in his sentence denied.

CHESTER -- According to Hancock County Prosecutor Jim Davis, the attorney for Terrence Williams filed a a motion to have his 50-plus year sentence reduced. Davis said he vigorously opposed this release. Judge Martin Gaughn agreed with Davis, denying the motion.
Williams did not appear in the courtroom, but witnessed the proceedings via video conference from the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville.
Terrence Williams was one of three people involved in the attempted robbery gone wrong. They attempted to rob Rex Waugh of Newell, duct taping him to a chair. Waugh later escaped, but died a short time later.
The others, April Tanner entered into a plea agreement and Michael Williams was found dead shortly after the murder.
