NEWELL -- John Hoffman, 77, of New Cumberland was pronounced dead at East Liverpool City Hospital following a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer tanker Dec. 30.

The wreck happened on state Route 2 between Newell and Mountaineer Race Track.

Both lanes of Route 2 have been reopened after being shutdown for nearly two hours.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Hoffman was driving a Toyota Camry that collided with the tanker truck near the Ergon Chemical Plant.

The driver of the tanker truck wasn't injured, and there was no chemical spill from the truck.

The investigation into what caused the crash continues.
