At least one employee is complaining about the new four-day work week meant to save the village of Powhatan Point money.
POWHATAN POINT, Ohio -- Powhatan employees have started their new four-day work week.
It's to cut down expenses while they build up the village budget.
Officials said the village gets a three-quarter percent income tax.
But many of their people are now retired or unemployed and have no income to tax.
So they are trying a shorter work week for a while.
Village employee Randy Saffell said he has no complaints. "Still I get 32 hours. It don't affect my benefits. I still get my medical and all that. And I get Friday, Saturday and Sunday off."
"There'll be some things that'll be put back on the back burner until we can get back up to par. But we just gotta struggle. Seems like every town is havin' the same situation that we have. So we're just gonna do the best we can," said John Mitchell, Powhatan council member.
Not everyone is OK with it. At least one employee's 32 hours are being spread out over five days instead of four.
Mitchell said that's not right. Four days should mean four days.
