Matthew Bradley faces a charge of aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing a Jefferson County man in the chest on Congress St. in Portland.

According to our sister station WGME-TV in Portland, Bradley made his first court appearance on Wednesday, appearing agitated and anxious to get his bail posted as low as possible. He asked for a new lawyer after his attorney failed to get his bail reduced. Police say he used a knife to stab Christopher Sasak,30, in the chest while he and Sarah Gill walked along Congress. During this time, Bradley's female accomplice Carrie Schlosser, 26, allegedly then hit Gill and took off with her purse.

The Sasak's were in Portland to be with their sick child who's being treated for a serious illness at Maine Medical Center.

Detective's believe this was a random attack on a couple going to visit their sick child. Christopher Sasak's injuries are not serious, detectives said.

In the meantime, Matthew Bradley's bail is set at $25,000. Stay with 7 News and www.wtrf.com as details become available.
