PRINCETON -- A Bluefield police officer is being charged with unlawful assault, following an off-duty incident.
Officer Daniel Lambert is on administrative leave, after being arrested and arraigned Monday.
Princeton Police Chief W.L. Harman says the alleged incident occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday on Thorn Street in Princeton.
He said it's always disappointing when someone is injured by a police officer.
"It's sad when anybody makes that kind of mistake, but especially a police officer," Harman said. "It just hurts the whole law enforcement community."
According to witnesses, Lambert was accused of punching and hitting a man with a beer bottle.
Harman said the victim has been released from the hospital, but will need additional treatment.
A Hinton Police Officer was reportedly with Lambert during the incident.
He has not been charged but police say additional warrants may be pending.
