WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS -- It's been some time since a golfing event like this has been staged here at The Greenbrier. For a lot of people around here, this may be the first time on a golf course to watch the pro's play.
Golf's playing field is a serene setting, unlike the frenzied atmosphere in other sports. There's a lot riding on each and every swing of the club.
While this is a professional sporting event, it's not like baseball, football or basketball where you can heckle the players.
"We don't want any Happy Gilmore moments out here with people making those types of jokes with players," West Virginia Golf Association Executive Director Ken Tackett said.
There is a list of items that are specifically prohibited including firearms and weapons, radios, signs and banners and carry-in bags should be about the size of a small purse.
Also, cellphones, pagers, laptop computers as well as coolers and outside beverages are on the list of items prohibited.
Cameras also will be prohibited beginning Friday.
Tackett said the noise of the shutter can be distracting to the players.
There is a whole group of marshals working for the tournament here to keep an eye and an ear out for disruptive or unruly people among the fans who will attend this tournament.
