WHEELING -- As tough economic times continue to grip the Ohio Valley, a local coal company announced it is hiring in the coming months.
Tunnel Ridge, a coal company which encompasses about 1,200 acres of land, is set to begin longwall mining in 2010.
Chief Operating Officer of Tunnel Ridge Tom Waynne said Friday that they've already begun hiring some workers and even more are needed.
The company hopes to pull about 6 million tons of coal from the ground through long wall mining.
Company officials said more than a thousand jobs will ultimately be created. Wheeling Mayor Andy McKenzie said Tunnel Ridge has been investing in Ohio County for years.
The company is currently taking applications. You can call them at 304-547-2901 or you can obtain an application through the Ohio County unemployment office.
