This is terrible!!! I have been to the VFW christmas parties with my grandmother (god rest her soul) many times as a child and when my children were born we took them to the parties. I feel that it should be a persons choice as to if they want their children to go not the Health Department.

As for the Welfare Quoting Leslie not all people that receive Welfare smoke. I have received welfare in my life and have busted my butt while receiving Food Stamps. Some people need a hand even when they are working to make ends meet. I work for the State and I also work another job. I have two children and am a single mother. On day you may open your eyes and see that not all welfare people are bad people they just need a helping hand.

Unfortunately, the welfare people that haul their kids to the VFW for the free holiday handouts all have cigarettes dangling from their lips anyway so another hour won't make any difference. They spend all their welfare check on cigs and beer and then expect John Q Public to provide their kids with a christmas. Poor kids. Then they come post on the channel 7 website.

First of all, I am a "liberal" who supports the use of Merry Christmas, God in schools, gun owner and support the rights of those who smoke. My family is steeped in military tradition and I have to say I resent the use of the word "liberal"in such a derogatory manner. The use of the VFW for a children's Christmas Party should in no way involve government of any kind be it city, county, state or federal. Perhaps your lawmakers need a lesson in how they became your lawmakers. The rights of the few should not outweight the rights of the masses.

How ridiculous this is!!!!! This is an ANNUAL event, not daily one! There is a separate entrance for this! And this is only a few hours! What are we allowing our country and our rights to become?! Some of these children will only have the Christmas that the VFW and the kindness of our community will provide for them. Yes, I said the word "Christmas"!!! I will forever, call December 25, Christmas! Christ-mas! HIS birth! This country has been intimidated beyond belief by too many who want to make it into a "patchwork" of non-specifics! It is America, the United States! People came here because of what our country was, what it stood for and what it meant to have the freedom that was fought for and died (and are still dying) for! We have allowed our "government" to be bullied and "held hostage" by ones who want to make it into their country! I am ashamed of us who have stood by and let this happen! We have been told what to do and when to do it! Where are our choices? Where are our rights? The "smoking" situation is ridiculous! Each establishment should be given the right to make the decision as to whether or not they want to allow smoking where they pay the rent and the taxes and bring money into the community and offer a service to the public! If ones who oppose smoking do not want to enter that establishment, then they can choose another that does not allow smoking. GIVE US THE CHOICE, NOT THE DEMAND! Please, do not take away something that is GOOD and something that is done for all the right reasons, and something that will bring happiness and light to children's eyes as well as light to the adults who do this for the children. Don't make this a crusade for the few who want to live their lives making others miserable! God Bless the wonderful Vets and their desire to do such wonderful things for others! USED TO BE THAT THESE EVENTS WERE SUPPORTED BY THE WHOLE COMMUNITY AND NOT DESTROYED BY SOME GUTTER INHABITING ACLU LIBERAL SLIME DOG TRYING TO MAKE A NAME FOR THEMSELVES. THE FIRST SANTA I EVER MET WAS THE NORMAN ROCKWELL VERSION AND HE SMOKED A PIPE WITH THE SMOKE RINGS LOFTLY FLOATING INTO A MAGICAL NIGHT. THAT WAS NEARLY FORTY YEARS AGO. IN MY ADULT LIFE AS CHRISTMAS APPROACHES, I RECALL MY FIRST MEETING WITH SANTA AND THROUGH STEEL STRIKES, LAY-OFFS AND YEARS WHERE MONEY WAS TIGHT I NEVER LOST SIGHT OF JUST HOW MAGICAL CHRISTMAS SHOULD BE FOR EVERY CHILD. SO I DONATED TO THE VFW, THE AMERICAN LEGION AND TOYS FOR TOTS. I HAVE NO CHILDREN OF MY OWN BUT THE MAGIC IS NOT LOST BECAUSE THESE MEN AND WOMEN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS DO MY SMALL DONATIONS.

THERE ARE CRIMINAL TARGETS MORE DESERVING THAN OUR VFW. THE FINE MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE SERVED THEIR COUNTRY OVERSEA'S FOUGHT FOR YOUR FREEDOM AND LIBERTY FROM SUCH TYRANNY, FROM SUCH AN INTRUSIVE GOVERNMENT AND THEIR AGENTS OF CONTROL. I DO NOT SEE ANY OF THE COUNTY SANITARIANS AS BRAVELY STANDING A POST AND WILLINGLY DEFENDING A NATION BY ENFORCING SOME SMOKING LAWS WHERE CHILDREN ARE PRESENT NEXT DOOR FOR ONLY A FEW HOURS.

MAYBE IT IS TIME WE STAND UP AS A COMMUNITY AND PUT THE LAWMAKERS OF OUR STATE IN THEIR PLACE. IT ONLY TAKES ONE VOICE TO START THE BALL ROLLING. INVADE THE NEXT CITY COUNCIL MEETING, PROTEST AT THE NEXT COUNTY COMMISION MEETING. ATTEND THE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING AND DO NOT STOP UNTIL THEY SEE THE ERROR OF THEIR WAYS. BUT DO SO RESPECTFULLY. TELL THEM TO LET THE VFW HAVE THEIR CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE COMMUNITY. FOR SOME OF THESE VETRENS AND CHILDREN, IT MAY BE THE ONLY HOLIDAY MAGIC THEY WILL KNOW THIS SEASON. DON'T TAKE AWAY THEIR CHANCE TO MEET SANTA AND HAVE A MEMORY OR TWO THAT CAN LAST THEM A LIFE TIME.
