FLUSHING, Ohio -- American Kougar Karate in Flushing is a drop-off and distribution agency for Toys For Tots.
The owners are stepping outside their normal parameters of teaching self-defense.
Owner and Senior Instructor Theresa Richards said Belmont County needed a Toys For Tots drop-off site and she stepped foward.
But she said times are so tough and people have so many needs that she's collecting more than toys.
"Every year the Marines do the Toys For Tots, and every child looks for toys under the Christmas tree," said Richards. "But with the economy in the state it's in, parents need a little more than toys this year. We're looking for clothes, shoes, boots, gloves, even diapers. So we're looking for anything that anyone's willing to give," Richards said.
Toys are being accepted at American Kougar Karate, 450 East High Street, Flushing.

Richards said they will distribute the toys to Martins Ferry, Powhatan, Bellaire, St. Clairsville, Flushing and Barnesville Dec. 17 - 18.
About 560 children are signed up to receive toys in Belmont County.
