WHEELING -- A Pittsburgh police officer is shot in killed in the line of duty, this while the country still mourns four Washington State officers killed last week while they sat in a coffee shop.
Wheeling Police Chief Robert Matheny said while he worked as an officer in Clarksburg he was faced with a situation where his life, and the life of other officers, was put in jeopardy.
Matheny said he responded to a domestic situation when he was stabbed in the chest.
Luckily, the chief wasn't severely injured, but he said he worries about other officers now that he's chief.
"Police put themselves in danger everyday and sometimes situations like these are unpreventable," said Matheny.
"It's an extremely scary situation for a police chief to worry about the men and woman in their department and their safety. We try to be alert- we train, we train and prepare for the worst, but hope for the best," said Matheny.
Allegheny County police have a suspect in custody in the death of the Penn Hills police officer and another man.
Police have charged Ronald Robinson, 31, with two counts of homicide.
