Van Winds Up in Pond in Belmont County
Posted Saturday, February 6, 2010 ; 07:42 PM | View Comments | Post Comment

The driver, Margarat Wiseman, did not appear to be injured.

In Belmont County an elderly woman was found trapped in her van in a pond in Morristown, Ohio.

Margaret Wiseman, 82, of Belmont County was driving Westbound on Route 40 when she got stuck in a pond around 10 p.m. Luckily, when she was found today she didn't appear to be injured.

"We got dispatched at 1:13 this afternoon for a passing motorist that observed a car in water. We responded on our arrival, obviously saw the car here and as we got closer the lady was inside, waved to us and was able to gain entry and extricate her from the vehicle," Morristown fire chief Doug Harris said.

"With the tinted glass we were able to see her inside. We opened up the back hatch and she was in the back seat and had a smile on her face and waved to us and said she was doing okay."

Wiseman was taken by the Bethesda squad to Barnesville Hospital once authorities got to the scene. Chief Harris is not sure of what caused the accident but believes the driver became disoriented in the snowstorm last night, then ended up driving into the pond.

Chief Harris says this is not the first time an accident like this has happened by this pond. He said a few accidents have occurred here within the last five or six years and some have been serious.

I think you missed the story here - this was an 82-year-old woman who spent the night in the cold in water in a snowstorm that you covered endlessly and survived to tell the tale. Somehow I think this was quite an accomplishment for anyone, let alone an 82-year-old woman. I Believe this is called a "human"interest story and not just an accident report! Shame on you!!
