COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Rookie Boone Jenner and veteran Brandon Dubinsky scored 40 seconds apart in the third period and Sergei Bobrovsky had 39 saves to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets past the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 last night. Nick Foligno and Derek MacKenzie also had goals and Nathan Horton had two assists for the Blue Jackets, who have won five of six.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - The Cleveland Indians beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1 yesterday. Cleveland's Justin Masterson threw four no-hit innings and Lonnie Chisenhall hit his first home run of spring training. After the game, to no one's surprise, manager Terry Francona said Masterson would be the Indians' opening-day starter.
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) - The San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-5 yesterday. Buster Posey had a three-run homer off Tony Cingrani among his three hits for the Giants. The Reds scored three quick runs off Tim Hudson.
CLEVELAND (AP) - Free agent safety Donte Whitner says he's agreed to a contract with the Browns, who have also reportedly signed inside linebacker Karlos Dansby. A two-time Pro Bowler with San Francisco and a Cleveland native, Whitner posted on his Twitter account "that I must now embark on my intended journey and become a Cleveland Brown. A place that's very dear to my heart!"
CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Bengals have released center Kyle Cook, who started every game last season, and signed receiver Brandon Tate to a new contract. Cook had been with the Bengals since 2007. He played in 73 games, starting 66.
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - In men's college basketball, Milwaukee beat Wright State 69-63 last night for the Horizon League tournament title. Senior forward Kyle Kelm had a double-double and Milwaukee's front line dominated. Wright State had a season-high six-game winning streak snapped. The Raiders were trying to get back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) - Bowling Green State University has announced it will not renew the contract of seven-year men's basketball coach Louis Orr. He was 101-121 in seven seasons, including a record of 54-60 in Mid-American Conference play. The Falcons lost at Northern Illinois 54-51 in overtime on Monday night to close out a 12-20 season.
