(AP) - Nori Aoki singled home Lorenzo Cain in the 14th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 win over Cleveland after Indians starter Corey Kluber carried a perfect game into the seventh inning last night. Cain opened the 14th with an infield single and stole second before Aoki delivered the winning hit off John Axford on a full-count pitch with one out.
NEW YORK (AP) - A person with knowledge of the meeting tells The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon will have a hearing with NFL officials in New York August 1st. Gordon was arrested this month in North Carolina on charges of driving while intoxicated. He also reportedly failed a drug test during the offseason.
CANTON, Ohio (AP) - Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly, who's recovering from cancer treatments, will participate in the coin toss at the Hall of Fame game in Canton August 3rd. The Hall of Famer will represent Buffalo as an honorary captain, while former linebacker Harry Carson will be the New York Giants' honorary captain when the teams face off in the first NFL preseason game.
CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed Number 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins, who has been linked to a possible blockbuster trade with Minnesota for All-Star forward Kevin Love. Any deal now involving Wiggins can't be finalized for at least 30 days.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio State University has fired the director of its celebrated marching band amid allegations he knew about and ignored "serious cultural issues" including sexual harassment. Jonathan Waters had led the band since 2012, and served in lesser capacities for a decade. His popular halftime shows drew millions of viewers on YouTube.
