Brandon Alexander Essington has been part of West Virginia Media since
October 2009. Initially he started off as a web producer for the
company and after a year and a half, he was promoted to webmaster in May
2011.
As webmaster, Brandon helps improve the day-to-day quality and content
of several WVMH web sites across West Virginia. He graduated from
Bethany College in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Communications.
While at Bethany College, Brandon was a member of the Psi Chapter of
Beta Theta Pi and held the position of Philanthropy Chair. He also
played for the Bethany Bison football team until an injury benched him.
He was involved with the college's television station as a news
reporter, graphic designer, video editor and news director. He was also
involved with several college TV shows including co-anchoring in
"Grinds my Gears." Brandon also did graphic design and video editing
for the five-segment, Emmy-nominated series "Be the Blessing" which
aired on WTRF-TV. With his love for new media, Brandon became the
webmaster for the Bethany's communication department during his senior
year, and was also the webmaster for the school's annual "The Folio"
newsletter.
Brandon started an internship in early 2009 with WTRF-TV in Wheeling,
learning what happens behind the camera at a television station. With
help from Brenda Danehart, News Director for WTRF-TV, and Jim Forbes,
Managing Editor and Anchor for WTRF-TV, Brandon landed the web producer
position that he is at today. Brandon is also big brother to Jim Forbes
in the chapter of their fraternity.
While at college, Brandon met his soul mate Jen Naylor, an Alpha Xi
Delta, and has been together with her for over 3 years. Together they
have an adventurous cat named Hootie and a pretty cool turtle named
Donnatella. You can usually catch Brandon and Naylor together cruising
around playing 80s music.
Brandon lives in South Charleston but is originally from Mount Pleasant,
Pa., south of Pittsburgh. During his free time, Brandon enjoys graphic
design and is attempting to learn how to play guitar. Brandon is a HUGE
fan of the Oakland Raiders and still has faith that they'll be great
again someday. In addition, Brandon also roots for the Pittsburgh
Penguins, Los Angeles Lakers and the Pittsburgh Panthers. He also
realizes that being a Pitt fan makes him an automatic outcast in West
Virginia.
