The Wheeling Nailers open the 20th season of hockey on Friday night in Greenville, South Carolina. They take on a Road Warriors team the Nailers knocked out of the playoffs last year in a brutal seven-game series. Training camp intensified today, the club went through a spirited workout at WesBanco Arena. Head coach Stan Drulia is back for his second season, which is making training camp a little easier. He knows the talents of the players who were here last year and there are several of them who wanted to come back for another run at a championship. The Nailers will have a familiar face in goal, Patrick Killeen, who was with the team during the playoff run to the conference finals. After Greenville on Friday, the Nailers are staying in the state of South Carolina to play the Sting Rays on Saturday. Besides head coach Stan Drulia, the Nailers will have veteran assistant coach Clark Donatelli on the bench as the Nailers assistant coach... Donatelli played in two Olympics, and was the captain on the '92 squad, which finished fourth in Albertville, France. Donatelli has been in hockey for a lot of years and has two goals while he's here to win a championship and get these players to the next level. Donatelli played his college hockey at Boston U; he was most recently an assistant coach at Providence College. He played 35 games during his brief NHL career with the Minnesota North Stars and Boston Bruins.
