The Wheeling Nailers won the home-opener, 3-2, over the Elmira Jackals on Saturday night at WesBanco Arena.
Patrick Johnson, the son of former 1980 USA Olympic team member Mark Johnson, and grandson of legendary coach "Badger" Bob Johnson, scored the game-winning goal a little over two minutes into the third period.
The Nailers erased a 2-0 deficit.
Johnson split the defense and trickled the puck under the legs of Elmira goaltender Brian Stewart for his second goal of the season. It was assisted by Zach Hansen.
Wheeling's other goals came courtesy of defenseman Tim Priamo (1) and winger Mikael Bedard (3).
The Nailers, who are now 3-0 on the season, outshot the Jackals 56-20.
