Oglebay Park To Receive Unclaimed Property Check

Posted: Updated:

State Treasurer John Perdue will present an unclaimed property check to Oglebay Park Friday in the amount of $2,495, as a way to help kick off the long-running  "Women & Money" conference series.

Perdue will present the check at about 9:45 a.m. Friday at Oglebay. The bulk was a $2,000 stale-dated check from the Division of Natural Resources. A "stale" check is one issued but not cashed in the customary time.

The check presentation will occur during a Treasurer's Office "Women & Money" conference at Oglebay. Women & Money is a long-running conference series that began in 2002 and has crisscrossed the state from Huntington to Shepherdstown and Wheeling to Princeton.

The FREE Women & Money event will begin 8:30 a.m. at Oglebay.

Wheeling is the only city besides Charleston to host the event four times. Veteran speaker Dee Lee once again entertained and informed the crowd.

On the unclaimed property front, Perdue said he is happy to return the check.

"We're always happy to reunite folks with lost property," Treasurer Perdue said. "We've returned nearly $100 million to state residents over the years. And the folks at Wheeling should know they have a fabulous facility here at Oglebay."

West Virginia routinely ranks among national leaders in the rate of unclaimed property return.
