Many students in Ohio County will be warm when stepping out of the door this winter all thanks to the efforts of local mine workers.
Students at Elm Grove, Middle Creek and Ritchie Elementary schools got a special visit from members of the UMWA Local 1473 Tuesday.
They brought with them nearly 100 winter coats and many pairs of gloves donated by workers from Consol Energy's Shoemaker Mine. The winter coat drive was organized by UMWA Member John Miller after he witnessed a young boy in the frigid cold without a coat.
